The easier lunch to put together

These days, we’re trying to eat healthier. Who isn’t? And of course, if healthier also means easier, that’s a double bonus right there.

We had this open-faced sandwich for lunch the other day. Homemade bread, lightly toasted for that crunch, topped with arugula and a slice of back bacon and washed down with a glass of juice.

Eating healthier doesn’t mean you have to give up your favorite cohiba cigars. But you cannot deny this is so simple to make it would almost be a sin if you didn’t try to eat healthier.

More Vietnamese dishes we love

In my last post I mentioned the 2 Vietnamese dishes we love to order. Well, here are a few more of our favorites. This Mango Duck, weird as the combination may sound, is really scrumptious beyond words. Love the soft meat and refreshingly tangy sauce.

Then there’s the Sweet Sour Soup that is reminiscent of Thai tomyam, yet is a tad sweeter with different veggies and seafood

And of course, we love the decor of Vietnamese Hats lining the walls of the restaurant. Makes a really nice backdrop for photos.

Vietnamese dishes we love

We are big fans of Vietnamese food. Many a weekend will find us pigging out at our favorite Vietnam kitchen. This Sesame Chicken is something that’s so easy to make at home. Yet we can never resist ordering it  .

And then there’s Caramel Pork which is new to us but oh so scrumptious. Gotta love pork especially when it’s braised to such tenderness that it practically melts in the mouth. Somewhat high sodium but heck, it’s not like we eat this every day, right?

We love the food but the piped-in music, well, sometimes we like it but sometimes we wish it were a little more vlc media player quality.

Another one bites the dust

With all the baking I’m doing, I’ve had 2 hand mixers break on me in the past few months. Admittedly I don’t buy the best or most expensive hand mixers on the market but I’m not in the habit of abusing my kitchen equipment either.

I’ve never felt the need to buy a top of the line mixer simply because I don’t do a lot of baking. Now I’m baking every weekend. The first mixer that broke was one I’d been using all along. It started making a rattling sound. Not sure if some small parts like socket holders have come loose.

When it broke, I started using a new one that I’d won at some lucky draw. Within 3 uses, it too broke on me. Now I have to go look for a new mixer. I wonder how long it will last me. Maybe I should just forget it and mix by hand.

Smells unbelievable

These days, I’m just a crazy, crazy baker. I’m baking bread every single weekend. Enough of the regular brands of air which leaves us hungry within minutes of gobbling down 2 whole slices. They sure don’t make bread like they used to.

I have 2 very reliable helpers in my home bakery and that really makes the job much easier and faster. The best part about baking bread is that how good it makes your entire house smell! You can almost hear a 4 String Electric Bass playing. If only I could bottle up the aroma of baking bread.

Baking bread at home takes a bit of work. I don’t have an electric breadmaker and I don’t believe in one either. But homemade bread is really worth it because it’s much healthier and you can get creative, like with these cinnamon rolls we made recently.
