Tea lover

I enjoy me a good cup of green tea every now and then. When I’m eating out at a Japanese restaurant, green tea is, of course, the default drink. At home, I sometimes brew a pot so my kids can have a few sips though they aren’t really fond of it.

Green tea is supposedly very good for you. It works as a detox and antioxidant. It lowers your cholesterol level, burns fat and fighting off major diseases. It promises countless other health benefits as well, too many to name. Who knows, it may even work as a Hormone replacement therapy but don’t quote me on that.

I love all types of tea and drink them for their taste. If they come with health benefits, then that’s definitely a bonus, isn’t it?

Cool drinks

These are hot days we’re having. And my weakness is spicy food. Add those two together and you almost have a recipe for heatiness. So the next best thing is to drink some cooling drinks to keep the heat away. For the teens, these drinks work as a very effective eczema treatment as well.

My favorites are:

  1. young coconut fresh in the shell
  2. sugar cane juice (wish I could have a glass now!)
  3. chrysanthemum tea
  4. honey lime or honey lemon
  5. iced lemon tea.

What are your favorites?

big pots of soya bean milk

These are blazing hot, sunny days we’re having with little reprieve. If you can’t run away from the heat and make like a piece of office furniture in an air-conditioned building, what’s the next best thing to do? Why, have a cool, refreshing glass of soya bean milk, of course!

For the past two weekends, I’ve been brewing big pots of my very own homemade soya bean milk. I don’t have the machine which I understand makes only one cup each time. Not enough for us  . We do everything big!

A huge big pot of soya bean milk makes me a few jugs and barely costs me a few bucks. I stick it in the fridge and it’s all gone, guzzled (burp!) by morning. It’s so ridiculously inexpensive and healthy I can’t resist making lots of it  ! Cheers!

jolly, really?

Once a year, during Chinese New Year, I allow my kids to drink Jolly Shandy which during the year, is a ‘controlled’ item in my household  .

So you can imagine how my kids took the opportunity to max out on my generosity. They consumed a whole crate of it in the past month!!

I swear they won’t be laughing when I make them go through a mandatory colon cleanse, I tell ya. They’re going to wish they hadn’t been so crazy and polished off a whole crate when I wasn’t looking!

how do you like your coffee?

Sometimes if I’m lazy or busy reading something boring on the internet about hemorrhoid treatment or whatever, I’ll ask one of my teens to make me a cup of coffee.

On days when I’m in a rush, I simply whip up my 3-in-1 coffee from a sachet. Very easy but maybe too sweet. Otherwise I make my instant coffee myself.

Well, I normally like it fairly strong with milk (not cream) and just enough sugar to light up my tastebuds and a nice dash of cinnamon  . How do you like your coffee?
