Is that my drink?
You know how some restaurants offer drinks refills on their menus? Well, I have a problem with those. Okay, I wouldn’t have a problem if the server walks around with a jug to refill your glass. But I do have a problem when they take your glass away to be refilled and then bring it back to your table.
My reasoning is this. If I can’t see where my glass is going/gone, how can I be sure it’s MY glass that’s coming back? If the server is taking someone else’s glass to be refilled at the same time they’re taking me (bearing in mind that servers have 2 hands), how can I be sure I’m getting MY glass back and not the other person’s?
See, I have a thing about sharing drinks. I never share drinks with anyone other than my own kids, and I teach them to do that same. It would seem shocking to a lot of people because as I’ve noticed, many folks share drinks with practically anyone the same way they would share, say, a pen or a bag.
For me though, there’s a vast difference because saliva contains unknown bacteria and germs from the source, hence my problem with sharing drinks and/or getting back a drink that may not be mine. Free refills are a good thing, sure but if I have to wonder where my drink has been, then I’m not drinking it, period.
