nothing dragon about this fruit

Warning, this post is so brilliant you gotta wear shades  !

I was looking for a MWF filter the other day when I heard dragonfruits calling out to me from a nearby fruit store. I really fancy its brilliant fuchsia color and very unusual skin. So pretty, huh? Judging from the leafy spikes protruding from the base of the fruit, I’d venture to say this must be the fruit of some kind of cactus. Just my guess.

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of a dragon is fire. This fruit doesn’t taste fiery as in spicy, it’s nowhere near the color of a dragon and it really doesn’t get you fired up in any way. Can’t imagine who named it. If you ask me, there’s very little to associate it with a fire-breathing dragon.

The mystery of the dragon fruit is I never know if the flesh is going to be white or fuchsia till I cut the fruit open. If there’s a way to tell what color the inside’s going to be, I don’t know about it. But either way, it’s pretty.

Now here’s the thing I love about it, chill the cut pieces before eating and feel the refreshing coolness of each piece as it travels all the way down to the pit of your stomach. I’m not kidding, but that’s all it is. The fruit itself is tasteless but that coolness it leaves behind more than makes up for it.

Oh, of course, it is reputed to have detox and cleansing benefits so it’s good for you. If you’ve never tried it, look around your grocery store and see if you can find it.

  1. I do believe that this is the first time I’ve ever even seen a photo of dragon fruit and I know I’ve never seen it in person. That’s an amazing color!
