Whoa, this week, val’s got me cracking my head
but these questions are seriously fun.
#1. What’s the oddest thing you’ve ever made with bread?
The only thing I can think of is braiding my bread, but that’s not odd, I just like playing with the dough
.
#2. What’s the oddest thing you’ve ever done with mac and cheese or pasta?
I think it would be eating pasta with chopsticks? It’s utterly un-Italian, of course, but it works out quite well
.
#3. Is there a food you eat other then it is intended?
I’ve drunk earthworm soup when I was a kid. Thank goodness I was too young and stupid to realize what was in it. It was supposed to cure a persistent cough and it did
.
In my teens, I accidentally ate half a centipede raw in a salad I was having for lunch. I thought I was going to die of poisoning but nothing happened
. Not that I make a habit of eating live insects. Eww!
#4. What’s the weirdest food you’ve ever seen?
I’ve been fascinated by the water caltrop (also known as ling kok in Chinese, or Chinese horn nut) since I was a kid.

As you can see, it’s shaped like a pair of bull horns and when pretty hard to crack open. Inside the soft white nut shaped like the outside. Actually I liked playing with it more than eating it. My grandmother used to buy this every year for the Mid-Autumn, or Mooncake Festival. It’s the only time of year we can get them.
If Four Foods on Friday looks like fun to you and you’d like to participate, go over to valmg’s blog at Fun, Crafts and Recipes for details on how to play.
Happy Chinese New Year if you’re celebrating

Earthworm soup…yuck!! That sounds so disgusting! I wonder what’s in it that cures a cough. I’ve had a bad cough this week, but if I drank that then I would throw up which would be worse! LOL

I’m sorry I haven’t got a clue what was in that soup. It’s an ancient recipe apparently. I only drank it once and it worked, so I guess it must’ve pretty powerful, eh?

Our maid didn’t do a good job of cleaning out the veggies. It was only after I’d swallowed it and saw the other half of the centipede in the salad that I realized she’d added some animal protein in there for me
