It’s timely that val chose a Chinese food theme for this week’s FFOF. Chinese New Year is just about a week away on January 26. I have dinner menus to plan and festive grocery shopping to do but being the queen of procrastinators, I haven’t even started yet
.
#1. Do you prefer to eat Chinese food in the restaurant or to have it delivered?
Deliveries are rare here unless you’re having a party and decide to cater. But we have lots of hawker food stalls and food courts that serve/takeout relatively inexpensive and yummy street food.
#2. Do you prefer wonton or egg drop soup?
You know, wonton and egg drop soups are pretty rare here. I seem to notice that they’re popular in Chinese restaurants in the US though.
I rarely cook these soups at home. Wontons are not often an item on our restaurant menus except in wonton noodle soup, or blanched in the dry version of wonton noodles (photo and recipe here).
#3. What flavor fried rice is your favorite?
I tend to make up flavors depending on what leftovers I have in my fridge.
#4. Describe your favorite item on the Chinese food menu.
This is a tough question
. Off the top of my head, I’d say Steamed Cod Fish (read my previous post here)

and Yam Basket (read my previous post here).

If Four Foods on Friday looks like fun to you and you’d like to participate, go over to valmg’s blog at Fun, Crafts and Recipes for details on how to play.

Fave me on Technorati

The US tends to make up their own ideas of what they think ethnic based restaurants are. You’d think we’d make an effort for more authentic foods!

I guess restaurants try to cater to local taste. It’s not only in the US, I think it happens everywhere. Chinese food in the US tends to be sweeter and blander, that’s my personal observation

The good pictures are taken by my son with his Canon 30D. The crummy ones are taken by moi

I forgot to do mine this week and it was a good one too. All the Chinese restaurants that deliver around here are bad so you have to drive to get to the good ones.

I didn’t realize you weren’t in the US. Yeah, egg drop soup and wonton soup are pretty standard in every Chinese restaurant I’ve been to.
