Way to go, valmg! I can’t think of a better theme for this week’s Four Foods on Friday questions than the Olympics. My TV just got fixed which means I finally get to watch the Olympics. Yay!
Not only that but I’ve just spent all last week ‘digesting’ Michael Phelp’s diet of 3 fried egg sandwiches, 3 slices of French toast, 3 chocolate chip pancakes, a 5-egg omelette and a bowl of grits – all at one sitting?
Wouldn’t it be great if we could all eat like that and not put on weight? Yet if that were indeed possible, I think I’d miss the gym too much. Love this week’s questions.
#1. What do you drink to rehydrate in the heat or after working out?
I guzzle lots of good old plain water during and after my workout. Water keeps me going.
#2. What do you eat to help boost or create energy?
I have two breakfasts every morning. Two slices of bread and a coffee before I head out to the gym. I come back famished so I have a bowl of oats or cereal.
I need to have carbs and meat in my diet to keep me going. I don’t make a very good vegetarian because I have a very high metabolic rate and my tummy is only happy when it’s got something substantial to chew on
.
#3. What’s the healthiest snack you eat?
I’m not a snacker. It’s just a habit, not something I’ve imposed on myself. I often buy snacks but forget to eat them. By the time Mother Hubbard remembers, the cupboard is bare
.
But at times when I’m super-duper hungry, I’ll grab a fruit, or a handful of nuts, or a granola bar as I’m running out the door on my next taxi run. Granola bars are great but I’d like them even more if they weren’t so sweet.

#4. Share a recipe or instructions for your ideal three course meal.
The best way to start a meal is with a simple salad (a huge one, I don’t mind) followed by a main meal of meat, veggies and carb. Pork chops or roast chicken with broccoli, carrots and potatoes sounds good right now. Finish off with fresh fruit for dessert. Happy days
!

We think alike on the ideal three course meal. And I drink a lot of water, too. One of my favorite snacks is raw nuts. So I almost felt like I was reading my own post when I read yours. lol

I used to swim competitively and it is amazing the great physical shape that it keeps you in. (Boy he is in amazing shape too!)

Wow, you were? I’m sure it must feel great to be in that shape. As for us mere minions, it’s back to the treadmill *sigh*

hahaha. Yes BUT. Competitively within my state, not nationally or internationally. Some experts say swimming is better exercise than any other including walking and running. I used to be able to eat anything I wanted and it never showed.
@ Elizabeth – yes, yes, I’d really like Michael Phelps breakfast too!

I can’t eat many raw veggies, so I’ll take a small salad, please, but otherwise, your three-course meal is right up my alley.
I felt better all-round when I swam every day. I should get back to that!

I’d love to swim more too, it’s a fantastic workout. Our weather is like yours, sunny all year. The pool at our club doesn’t have any trees around it, much too sunny for me.

I swim in the ocean, so there’s never any shade. Try a rash guard shirt over your suit. They provide SPF qualities and let me stay in the water a lot longer.

What I need is a mask, a roasted nose doesn’t look good on me
