Hey, it’s Friday again and that means it’s time to play Four Foods on Friday, a weekly meme of culinary questions coined by valmg of Fun, Crafts and Recipes.

#1. Name your biggest cooking influence.
I’d have to say it was my aunt who is an ardent recipe collector and a passionate cook. She loved to entertain but was always cooking up a storm even when she wasn’t entertaining :lol: . Growing up, I often wished I could cook like her.

#2. What is your ultimate comfort food?
I don’t know if pasta can be considered a comfort food, but it’s definitely mine :wink: .

#3. Name one must-have tool that you think every kitchen should have.
I’m a chopsticks person. I think those two sticks of wood is the best thing ever invented. It’s so simple yet it’s a multipurpose piece of art. I eat with it. I use it for stirring, picking up anything from fishballs to pasta to pies out of the oven, and deep-frying (I have an extra long pair of chopsticks for this). Lay it across the wok and it instantly because a base to hold my plate for steaming. It’s mind-blogging what you can do with it :lol: .

#4. Share a time saving tip.
The crockpot cooks while we sleep so that’s gotta be it. And… I’ve just reminded myself I’ve got to start using my crockpot more.

Yes the crockpot is a delight! You throw in a roast and potatoes and everyone calls you an excellent cook. I’m not tellin’! LOL

I never would have thought of chopsticks as a “must have”. I’m clumsy with them but I see they are very useful. I might have to purchase them next time.

Chopsticks! I wish I could learn to use them.

I forget my crockpot way too often — I think it’s because it is stored in an inconvenient place in my kitchen. I’m gonna have to get that sucker out and rev it up!

@anele
Nice cheat, I love it! It’s between you and me then :lol: .

I am afraid to leave my crockpot on when I’m not home. See my problem?
Thanks for playing FFOF!
Stumbled.

I’m Chinese so I grew up using the chopsticks. So I have a bit of a headstart :grin: . But chopsticks are easier than they look.

@elle
I don’t have an excuse. Mine’s where I can see it all the time, yet somehow I hardly think to use it :roll: .

@valmg
I get you, I have the same concerns about leaving stuff on when I’m not home, and that includes my computer and modem. I learnt my lesson from having my modem nuked by lightning while I was away :sad: .

I never would have thought of chopsticks…but maybe that’s because I can barely eat with them. Haha.

[...] Chili Queen shared the appliance that saves her the most time in the kitchen and thinks every kitchen should have chop sticks. [...]

Hmmm…eating with chopsticks would be a great way for me to lose weight because I wouldn’t get much food all the way up to my mouth. LOL :)

@corrin
The quickest way to learn is when the food in front of you is too good to resist. That should inspire anyone to be as deft with it as Kung Fu Panda :)

@charla
:lol: Interesting thought! Yeah, it does slow down the eating process somewhat, I guess, because the food is cut into “chopstickable” sizes in Chinese cooking.

You asked what brand chopper that I use: I have two hand choppers (not electric). One is Zyliss and the other is Kitchen Aid. I love them both equally!

@deebee
Thanks, I’ve been looking for a good one forever. I’ll have to look around and see if I can find those brands here.
