four foods on Friday #35 - culinary inspiration

One thing I’m constantly on the lookout for are food ideas. I have to make lunch for three hungry teens every day. So naturally, I’m excited to see where others find their sources of culinary inspiration.

#1. Name one cookbook, cooking website or food blog that you frequently use.
Chef John of Food Wishes makes everything so easy and I really love it when chefs explain things as they go along.

#2. Do you watch any cooking shows on tv? Which ones?
For me, it’s a case of too many cooking shows, too little time. Jamie Oliver is the only one I watch. I love his simple style of cooking and how he improvises on a moment’s notice.

#3. Are you in a cooking rut? Name a food or dish that you’d like to find a recipe for.
Right now, I use Prego but it’s getting expensive because we eat pasta very often. I’ve actually made my own tomato sauce from fresh tomatoes before but it turned out blek! Now I’m trying to find a better recipe that tastes good fresh and keeps well.

#4. Share a recipe created by somebody else that you haven’t tried but would like to.
Can’t think of any off the top of my head.

If you’d like to jump in with your ideas, just grab the questions from Fun, Crafts and Recipes, post the answers on your blog and valmg, our meme queen, will write up a little something on her blog about what she’s learnt from you.

You might want to try “Mama’s Marinara” from Rocco. It’s supposed to be excellent!

I’m with you on the “too little time”. Between the deciding what to eat, the shopping and the prep work, well… I’m just exhausted talking about it.

I would rather sew than cook! LOL

I love sauce from scratch!
Thanks for playing FFOF!

@anele
Thanks, I’ve just checked out the recipe and it sounds easy and yummy. I’m going to try it, fingers and toes crossed I’ll get it right :lol: .

@deebee
Not to mention the washing up, blek :lol: !

@karen
I can’t sew for peanuts. Thanks for the link to my wontons *hugs*.

@valmg
Thanks for your hard work coming up with great questions every week :grin: .

I used canned tomato sauce to make my sauces. It’s not as much work as making it totally from scratch, but still allows you to put in all your seasonings and is less expensive than the jarred sauces.

[...] Chili Queen doesn’t have a recipe she hasn’t tried before that she wants to. She’s looking for a recipe for tomato sauce using fresh tomatoes. [...]

@lynne
I guess I’ll have to be using canned tomato sauce after all since most of the recipes call for that instead of fresh tomatoes. But I’ll probably still add in some fresh tomatoes as well :smile: .

Jamie Oliver is another chef that I love and forgot about! Although, sometimes he uses ingredients that are out of my league, but he is still fun to watch.
