On a whim, DH decided to take me and the girls to lunch at Champ’s at Centerpoint, Bandar Utama last Thursday. It’s been a really long while since we decided it’s too smoky a place to bring the kids.

They’re famous for their Damn Shiok Prawn Mee which is an upscale version of the prawn noodle you get at your regular hawker stall except this one comes with huge prawns and huge chunks of pork ribs. I seem to remember the soup being much thicker.

Their Cantonese Fried Noodles is interestingly called the Kungfu Chow. Gotta have it yeen-yeong (meehoon, or vermicelli rice noodles and kuay teow, or flat rice noodles) and the seafood version with squid, fish fillet, large prawns, pork and pork liver. If this serving looks big, that’s because it is  !! I just wish they put more wine in it like they used to.

We tried their lunch special of Hainanese Chicken Rice with steamed chicken which is pretty good. The soy bean milk is refillable, so it’s happy days  .

The Fish Head Noodle is also on the lunch specials, I think. Great stuff. Lots of fried fish fillet, harm choy (salted mustard green) and Chinese lettuce. I’d have preferred the soup to be a whole lot more milky. That would make it fatteningly authentic  .

Eating at Champ’s is not cheap. You pay premium price on hawker fare but the portions are really big with lots of ingredients, so I guess that makes up for it?
