chili dog fries @ Carl’s Jr

We had to go back. Once I’d had a taste of that Bacon Guacamole Cheeseburger at Carl’s Jr, I just knew I’d be back. Yes, me, the person who used to say “I hate burgers”.

Then I spied this listed in the top corner of their menu under ’something’ Fries or Fries ’something’. See, I was so excited at the prospect I didn’t even take note of what this is called.

So I’ll just call it Chili Dog Fries for now till I can go check out its real name. But I mean, this is seriously good so who cares what it’s called.

It’s good old french fries drowned in chili dog sauce and shredded mozzarella. I found it yummy but way too salty! They should’ve just left the salt out of the french fries and let the chili dog sauce and cheese do their sodium magic.

Because this is so-oo good, I’m going to try making a low-sodium version in my Experimental Kitchen. Later.

Big Apple donuts

Out of curiosity, we decided to check it out what’s with the long lines at Big Apple Donuts and Steev’s been hooked ever since. Woe to my wallet!

As with all open kitchens, theirs is interesting in that you can watch how a donut comes together. Provided you can tolerate the stale buttery smell that pervades throughout the neighborhood, that is.

The thing about open kitchens though is they beg of question of “how many men does it take to make a donut?”. You go find out the answer yourself :D .

The donut is buttery soft, too soft for a donut, if you ask me. True donuts are chewier with a bit of a crunch and far less butter.

Variety-wise, though, you can’t complain, there’s lots of interesting names and flavors to choose from.

I tried one bite and that was too much for me. So I’ll let Steev recommend his favorites - Whitnut, Chococinno, Choreo, California Almond and 101 Dalmatians.

grown-up burgers @ Carl’s Jr

So it’s Saturday night and we saw some folks emerging from The Gardens with Carl’s Jr cups in their hands. Brainwave!! Carl’s, here we come.

We’ve loved their burgers since they were last here at the Bird Park where we used to take the kids for lunch with the hornbills sitting on the balcony. So where the heck are they at now?

Definitely not at The Gardens. They’re on the top floor of Midvalley right outside the cinema. It’s a long way to climb but heck, these are grown-up burgers we’re talkin’ about.

Raine and Skye had the Famous Star, the cheapest burger but it’s also one of the biggest. They were kicking themselves for having had tea before we left the house. Tummies still half-full, they thought they’d order the tiniest burger. Turned out to be huge.

Steev and DH ordered the Chicken Club burger which understandably were huge too. As for me, the minute I saw the word guacamole, I knew I couldn’t get my hands on that Bacon Guacamole burger quick enough.

Can you see that guacamole just peeking out? Well, there’s a big blob of it under that sesame top. Happy days! Got me all fired up to make my own guacamole, later.

The fries, well, they’re a little on the skinny side but beautifully crunchy and not too salty (compared to the other fast food places). Just the way we like it.

The only thing we didn’t like was the whopping bill that came to rm84 for the five of us with no fancy side orders. I overheard the family sitting behind us gasping at the prices too.

food and me

Food and me, we have a strange relationship.

I love to eat but I’m a picky eater.

I like to try new food places but I’m not prepared to drive miles to chase down food.

I look forward to good food but I’m not greedy.

I like to cook but I eat very little of what I cook myself.

Does any of this make sense? Because if it doesn’t, I don’t understand it myself  . But I’m going to try to blog some sense into it all.
